Vision for Guilford County

Greensboro will become a city where the sum of the parts makes us an attractive place to live, work and play.

Implementation of Vision

Public safety and job creation are vital to implementing my Vision Statement for Greensboro.

We cannot create jobs if our citizens are not confident that the City is working to protect their lives and property. Police, Fire and Inspections programs are city departments that must work seamlessly together to protect the health, safety and welfare of our citizens. I support providing the leadership and public resources that allow these core functions to perform their jobs at a very high level.

Good paying jobs must be created in areas that are sustainable in a global economy, generating a tax base that can fund the quality of life that our citizens deserve. Creating good paying jobs require consistent investment in community infrastructure, such as roads, water and sewer systems, and communication networks. Investing in quality of life issues such as parks, the arts and even swim centers are also important if we are to compete in the global marketplace. We must follow through on planning efforts such as the High Point Road corridor study, the Aerotropolis plan, downtown revitalization, East Market Street redevelopment, and park land and open space initiatives. The City must work with our colleges and universities to insure they achieve their goals, and make the college experience so positive that Greensboro retains their graduates. We must finish our urban loop, continuing Greensboro's legacy as the "Gate City" of the Carolinas.

Most importantly, we must continue to work on regional initiatives to provide solutions to problems that we cannot solve by ourselves. These include work force development and training, long-term solutions for solid waste disposal, long-term water and sewer solutions, and recruitment of industries that have requirements exceeding any individual municipality.
